Feel the Rhythm of Wellness
An Ode to World Dance Day - 29th April 2023
“And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.” – Friedrich Nietzsche
Butterfly Ayurveda recognises the importance of dance as a great way to stay healthy. Dance carries manifold benefits that include improving one’s physical and mental health. Some of these are - experiencing an upliftment of mood, a significant increase in joy and delight due to improved blood circulation and release of hormones such as endorphins and dopamine. Further, dance also helps improve cardiovascular health, increases strength and stamina in the body, improves balance, and coordination of body limbs.
Ayurveda, the ancient science of life, recognizes the importance of somatic practices and therefore, prescribes ‘Yoga’ as an important way to connect within and find a balance in the body-mind-spirit complex. Dance originates from ‘Yoga’ since it brings together the body-mind and spirit, and connects us to the whole or what we refer to as divine.
Ayurveda recommends that the choice of movement must come from the individual’s personal experience of what he enjoys doing and learning. These could range from different forms - from classical to contemporary, from hard, and fast to soft and flowing movement, all of which carry multiple therapeutic properties.
World Dance Day is a great way to promote the health benefits of dance and encourage people to incorporate movement with awareness in their daily routine.
